Hybrid Cards

Lately I have started to enjoy making what is called "Hybrid" Greetings Cards. It is combining digital art with papercrafts. I think I am enjoying it because it is so much quicker than stamping and colouring in an image. Plus the image can be made to any size you want it to be.
So today I decided to take part in a challenge from The Hybrid Chick blog to use ribbons on a card.

For my card I used digital products from a kit called Sweet Songs by Viva Artistry.

It has been quite some time since I shared any of my papercrafts so I thought I would share the six Calendar pages I have made so far this year. I am doing a swap with a Stamping/Email Pal in the USA. We have never met but enjoy our friendship via emails.
We decided on making our pages have the theme of Flowers and Insects. I am using an old calendar stamp by Hero Arts for the base of the dates and the numbers are a set of alphas and numbers by Hero Arts.Also I am using an old set of Flowers of the Year by Hero Arts. These stamps for each month have that month's flower on them. I am enjoying making these and posting one off each month to my friend in the USA.

Ideal papercrafts is holding their March Cybercrop and the theme is Summer - well Summer is officially over but it is nice to do summery scrapbook pages.
I always enjoy doing the card challenges and for this one we had to have the following on our card: Sticker, Stamping and String.
It was good to dig out the loopy brads as I hardly ever use them and still have oodles of them in different colours.

This is a card created using a Sketch challenge at Christian Paper Crafts.
Once I would never use a sketch for my card making but now I enjoy doing so. This card is made ready for sending to my sister-in-law for her 70th Birthday later this month. Blenda's favourite colour is green which is why I chose these colours for the card.

Towards the end of last year I took part in a Christmas Card Challenge ( the cards shared in previous postings) and it was a lovely surprise to be the one who won the major prize. This is a photo of the prize - a blank recipe folder. Until I receive the prize I am not sure what I will be doing with it. I think the pages inside are blank and maybe pocket type pages so I may use it as a special photo album.

For this challenge we were asked to use a Journalling Tag on a card. I found one in a set of papers and things that came free with a Scrapbooking magazine - I turned the tag on the side and stamped on it. The green paper was from the same free kit.

For this card we were asked to use embossing ( I used a Sizzix Tim Holtz one called "Bricked" ) and include a star. I made my star with a Quilling Comb ( first time of doing this technique ).

With this challenge there was a quiet a list of colours to use - brown, blue, dusty red, green, cream, gold and white. Plus it had to have a vintage look.

I enjoyed using my new Ecraft machine to cut out the flourishes. Also I did no stamping on this card. The tag and patterned paper were from a free kit that came with a Cardmaking magazine.

For this card we had to use a stamp we have not used for a long time. The Nativity stamp I used was bought the first year I started stamping which was back in 1992 and the Bible Verse stamp was the first scripture stamp I ever bought and would have been bought that year also.

For this challenge our card had to be totally made with the colours - white, blue, silver and purple. I usually scan my cards but thought that scanning would dull the silver but photographing has dulled the purple ( can't win can I?)

Each week now at Ideal Papercrafts we will be given two challenges to make Christmas card for six weeks giving us 12 cards ready for giving away this Christmas. I like these challenges as it helps me get started on my cardmaking for Christmas time.
At the end of the 6 weeks for each card I share in the gallery at Ideal Papercrafts I will have an entry in a prize draw which I think has three prizes.

The challenge for this card was to use things from our stash that are not specifically for Christmas. The papers and 3d sticker. I used are by BoBunny and the them was definitely not Christmas. The feather of course is not the normal thing to put on a Christmas card and the epoxy sticker by Creative Imaginations was not from a Christmas set.

This scrapbook page is for my Tasmanian Holiday album and was made for a challenge at Scrap of Difference's Cyber crop this weekend. The challenge is the colour one and the colours we had to use are Kraft, Blue and Yellow and the photos to do with WATER as that is the theme for the weekend.

I used my new Ecraft machine to make the flourishes and the lettering.

This is a card made for a Cybercrop at Scrap of Difference. The theme for the weekend is "WATER" so on this card we had to have a Wavy border; A - the letter a somewhere; T - two or more circles; E - embossing; R - rubons.
Recently I decided to dabble in some quilling which I used to do about 18 years ago and gave up when I became addicted to rubber stamps. This is my first little bit of quilling now I have bought some new tools and papers.

I found a poem which I felt went with these photos of my granddaughter busy playing.

The "J" challenge was "Jiminy Cricket" - we had to create layout and use little bugs or critters on i.
This gave me the opportunity to do a page using photos of my step-Granson, Kyle who just loves Bugs. This was a fun page to put together. I enjoyed using my photoshop program to make the photos cartoon like.

The challenge for "H" was a layout using "HOT" colours - red, orange and yellow.

I decided to use photos of my granddaughter, Imogen showing her hair before she and a friend played hairdressers. The after photo was taken by my brother-in-law and had a busy background so I played around in Photoshop to take away the background and replaced it with just plain yellow.

Last month I took part in a crop run by My Sketch World. It was a total of 26 challenges going through the alphabet. It was run by one day being a scrapbook page and the next a card. I thought I would share what I created for this crop and will share two each time I add a posting. So here I will share A and B. A was a card with "ADORNMENT" - we had to add some bling or sparkle. The patterned paper I used had glitter already on the flowers and I added gems to the centre of the flowers.
The B was "BORDER PUNCH" on a scrapbook page. I used the challenge to put together another page for the album of my daughter's wedding. The photo was of the lovely couple dancing.

This week's card challenge was to make a card with some dimension and we were not allowed to use any rubber stamps at all.
I used a digital scrapbooking image by Valerie Randall of the angel. Printed it three times and made a paper tole from it. Added some glitter. The background is the front off an old Christmas card ( nice to be able recycle it ).

This challenge is from the forum of Ideal Papercrafts. I nearly forgot to share this here last week. We were asked to create a card using non-traditional Christmas colours. I chose to work with purple and cream.

I am now editing and adding this information: Today I discovered my card was voted the best for last week so I won a prize of a pack of Christmas papers ( this is 12 x 12 papers used for scrapbooking as well as for cardmaking)

Here is my card for Week 1 - we were given the challenge to have a "collection of something" on our card. I chose to have a collection of flowers - five of them are the same style and size.

This is the layout for the "Roast Dinner" challenge and is for the album of my daughter's wedding which took place in 2005. I would not have thought I putting this page together like this and am really pleased with the result. The photo is small but I like it - far better than the 4 x 6 colour photo I had planned to use for this page of the album. We had to use a 5 cm x 28 cm piece of non-traditional scrapbooking item behind the photo and I chose to use two strips of packaging tape with had white stripes in it. For the title we had to use three different alphas. Also the three different sized butterflies was a requirement along with the pleated ribbon which I had never done before.

This past weekend I took part in a cyber crop at Scrap Boutique which is a forum I recently joined. I liked two of the challenges. One was a sketch and the other a "Roast Dinner" - it was like a Blind Scrap where you are given the list of requirements and then the directions of where to place things on the page but you don't get to see the hosts sample page until after others complete their pages.

This first page is what I created for the sketch challenge and is for an album of a holiday my family took way back in 1996. The background paper behind the photos is a photo of hot coals I found on the web and printed out.

I enjoyed making the distressed circle "flowers" as I had never made these before.

This is a layout for a mid-month challenge at Ideal Papercrafts which I won a prize for.

The challenge was a Recipe one. We were given a list of things to include on our page as follows:
Two patterned papers, one plain cardstock, a piece of lace cardstock, 8 brads, two ribbons ( I placed a yellow variegated one over a brown one), 3 rubons ( the flowers ), an alpha ( hobart ); three pieces of chipboard ( the arrows).

I was happy to get another page put together for a holiday we had in Tasmania back in 2007.

For this challenge we had to use an envelope, fourishes and some bling.

I had not scrapped this photo of my granddaughter taken on her 2nd Birthday so I used this challenge as incentive to do so.

The journalling reads:
Imogen celebrated her 2nd Birthday over in Canada with her parents and some of her Dad's family.
Once again Grandma was not there to celebrate the day.
Imogen's Mumma and Daddy gave her a toy camera.

For this challenge we had to use Monochromatic colours with only one added accent ( I used the gold) and we had to have bling, rhinestones or pearls ( I chose pearls ) and a photo corner.

I hope to eventually make a matching page on which I will do lots of journalling about our celebration of my parents 50th Wedding Anniversary which took place in May 2002.

The group photo has their Bestman ( my uncle - Dad's brother) and Bridesmaid (my cousin who is only 10 years younger than my mother)

This is a card for the April Cyber Crop at Ideal Papercrafts.
We were given an illustration for inspiration which had four rectangles of bright coloured pictures and the dominant colours of each rectangle was in the same order that I have used on my card.
We had to add doodling to our card - I doodled the border around the edge.
Also we had to use string and a bookplate.

I used the challenge to make an acceptance card I needed to reply to an wedding invitation.

This is the card I made for the Scrap of Difference Cyber Crop Card Challenge this month.
We were asked to use a handmade flower ( mine is made using a tutorial called "Pinwheel Flowers") and the word "Friend" had to be somewhere on the card and also to use an item bought for something other than scrapbooking - for this part of the challenge I have used an old calendar for the floral square and the paper used for making the flower. I sanded the edges of the circles cut for making the flower and also sanded the square of calendar paper.

This last weekend I took part in a Cyber Crop for Scrap of Difference - only got to do one challenge layout and the card challenge.

For this page we had to use two hand made flowers or one hand made plus one altered flower. I enjoyed making the flowers for this. In the forum some links to tutorials on making flowers was shared. I chose the "Loopy Flower" and the "Scrunched Rosettes" to play with and I am pleased with how they turned out. The Rosettes worked well as I had some nice soft silk type paper in my stash from years ago.

This is a photo of my daughter and her husband on their wedding day taken by the professional photographer. I have always felt this photo had a "hippy" feel to it which I thought the use of the flowers would work okay with.
My photographing of the layout has not shown the true colour of the plain cardstock I used - it was a light cream colour which matched the cream colour in the patterned paper of the flowers.
It was good to get another page done for the album of my Daughter's wedding.. seeing it took place in December 2005.

Some Recent Paper Scrapbooking

These are two layouts I have finished this week for a Cyber Crop at The Scrapbook Establishments. One featuring my friend Cathy and her Dog which was a challenge that we were given a photo to obtain inspiration from. I chose the colour chocolate brown from the photo and the heart shaped chocolates and also in the photo was tissue paper so I made my own tissue paper flowers for my page.

The Summer Holiday layout was for the challenge to use a Song Title for the title of the page and I remembered this holiday from back in 1996 which I had never scrapped and remember us sometimes singing the first two lines of that Cliff Richards song leading up to that holiday. Also on our page for the challenge we had to have two photos and use chipboard which I did with the letters and the two arrows.

Sherbet coloured card

This is for this week's colour challenge at Christian Paper Crafts. We had to use Sherbet colours of pale green, peach, pink and white.
I usually prefer to work with bolder colours but I did enjoy putting this card together using my Spellbinder dies and cutting up the flower shape to make it look a little like patchwork.

I needed to make a Sympathy card for my Son-in-law whose 95 year old Grandmother died last week so decided to use the colour challenge for this.

Inspiration Challenge at The Scrapbook Establishment

On the forum of The Scrapbook Establishment this week we were given the challenge to create a paper craft item from inspiration gained from pieces of fabric shown by the challenge host.
I chose a fabric that was the colours I have used and it had a scalloped circle on which was a red dotty sunburst very similar to the stamped image I have used on my card.

This was a fun challenge.

I joined their forum just before Christmas and of course did not have time then to take part in any challenges.

I am so glad I found this forum as the challenges are good ( especially for cardmaking ) but most of all the Scriptural devotions are so encouraging and uplifting.

Leftover from my Design Team Pack

These two cards and little gift bag were made with what was left of my Design Team pack. The tag on the Hope Card was the tag on the set of stamps in the pack.
The craft cardstock was also in the pack but I had not used it on either of the layouts I put together so I was able to use it for making these two greeting cards and the tiny tag on the gift bag.

Guest Design Teamer for Scrap of Difference

In my role of Guest on the Design Team for Scrap of Difference this month ( November) I was a sent a pack to work with and this is the first layout I put together.
I used only two sheets of the Kaiser papers from my pack as the little journalling boxes were stamped on the paper under where the photo was placed.
The extra flowers were cut from the second piece of paper and I used stick on pearls which were in the pack on the centre of the large flower and one the journal boxes.
The rubber stamps used are from a set by Kaiser and were also in the pack given to me.

For this month I am a Guest on the Design Team for Scrap of Difference and as part of my job I needed to set a challenge so my challenge to the other scrappers is to be inspired by the song Love is Like A Butterfly by Dolly Parton and use at least ONE word from the song and have at least ONE butterfly on the page.

I used photos from my brother's wedding in 1993 which took place in a Holiday unit at Coolum Beach.

The centre of the flower was made using a die cutter I purchased last Saturday that cuts the narrow strip of paper and all the little slits for the quilled flower...... might start back doing some quilling which I used to do in the early days of my cardmaking when I combined quilling with rubber stamping.

This was my layout for the Sketch Challenge and is another page for my Tasmanian Holiday album.

These birds are commonly known as Mutton Birds and it was such a thrill to get to see them come to land and go into their burrows. They spend the day out over the ocean and only come to their burrows at night.

This layout was for the WORD Challenge... we had to choose to work with either the word "Trick" or "Treat"... so I chose Treat.

this was a fun layout to put together and is only an 8 x 8 page for a small Album I am starting --"All About Me"... some quirky things , some normal things, some funny things about me.

The photos were printed from my computer and they turned out better than I expected as Iam having trouble with my new printer getting to print not too dark. The "Chocolate" is letter I pruchased from Lettering Delights ( I do love their alphabets... so much fun)

This is my recent paper scapbooking layout.
I have used Glimmermist sprayed on the background cardstock over some Walnut ink- Eucalyptus and the tags were also sprayed withe glimmer mist and while wet scrunched up then when dry ironed flatter.
The frame is a printed one from the computer - digital scrapbooking.

This was a special event to carry my newest granddaughter in her sling twice on this day with the second time being during a lunchtime picnic when she went asleep and so I held her for over 2 hours.

I just love the idea of these slings... really helps with bonding.

Most of this is digital... the only thing not printed from the computer is the orange card.
I am really pleased with how the printed out bow looks so real.

Over at Faith Sisters on Tuesdays they set a card sketch challenge and this is the first one I did for the start of their new challenge of going through the alphabet.
Karma for Faith Sisters is putting together a mini digital kit each time and I am planning on using that each time to make a Hybrid card.
I enjoyed doing that for this one.

So this is the letter "A"
The Bible verse from the kit starts with A and the yellow background paper has Arrows on it.

We were asked to use any of the other challenges for our card.
I chose to combine the three - the sketch, colour and word for my card. I also used leftovers from the page I did for the colour challenge.

purple, pink, yellow and lime green.

I found these photos of my step-granddaughters fifth birthday and thought they matched the colours for the challenge well.

This layout was for the Word Challenge. We were given the word "Smile" and this had to be included somewhere on our layout.
It gave me an opportunity to use these photos I had of my husbands grandsons. I hope to do a second page with the same papers as they posed nicely for me and then this day I asked them to make funny faces so those photos will go on the second page.

This layout was for the Sketch Challenge for the Cyber Crop this month at Scrap of Difference.

We were also asked to use only Kaiser Papers so I had to rush out to the Scrapbook store which is just around the corner from where I work to purchase some of these papers and I did enjoy working with them.
Also it was good to get another page put together for my Tasmanian Holiday album.

Glimmer Mist On Line class

On the forum of Scrap of Difference there is an Online Class about using glimmermist which I followed to create this page. The glimmermist, the stickers used and the stencil used were all purchased from Scrap of Difference.

My photography is not the best as the blue background is square.

The photos are of my grand-daughter, Imogen when she was about 5 months old. She will be three in November this year.

Three Different Cards using the same rubber stamp

Card Challenge for Challenge Chics. We were asked to make three different cards using the same rubber stamp in different techniques.
The purple card I just stamps the image which is the word baby repeated in different sizes with chalk ink on card. The aqua and cream card is used a Kaledacolor rainbow page and repeated the stamp down the strip of cardstock. The third card I used white ink on black cardstock and then used coloured pencils to colour over some of the words.

I am a little excited because I am adding to this posting that these cards won me a prize over at Challenge Chics.

This is another paper Scrapbooking page completed this month.
I joined Challenge Chics and this is for their Cyber Crop Challenge to do a White on white page. I had never done this before and it was a challenge to not add any colour.
The dove was printed from digital scrapbooking and also the flourish is printed on white cardstock and hand cut out but the reverse used - not the printed side.

Last year I just about stopped doing any Paper Scrapbooking when I became addicted to Digital Scrapbooking.
Recently I felt like using paper and cardstock and all the trimmings again so I decided to start doing a little bit of paper scrapping and this is the first layout I did this year - done this month for a Sketch Challenge for The Scrapbook Establishment.
I used my computer for the little map up in the corner and also the ship's wheel was printed from some digtital designing kit ( cannot remember which one ).

Scripture Challene 2008 at Faith Sisters

This is the little ATCs I made for the Scripture Challenge in 2008.
Each week we were given a different word to search for Scritpures cantaining that word and then create art around that scripture and other thoughts.
Often I would share a scripture and a song that once reading the word and devotion for that week, would come into my mind.
Two of my art pieces contained parts of photos of my Granddaugher Imogen.
This was something I really enjoyed working on and each week looked forward to what word we would be given.
